Responsibilities

The Engineering Departments primary function is to ensure the overall public health, safety, and welfare of Township residents through the application of engineering design standards established by the engineering profession.

As licensed professional engineers our responsibility is to provide engineering oversight to public facilities, such as:

  • Roadways
  • Sanitary sewer systems - including two sewage treatment facilities that serve six adjoining municipalities
  • Storm water drainage systems

Capital Improvements

The Engineering Department oversees the Township’s Capital Improvements Program, which includes making annual improvements to the township’s roadways through reconstruction and resurfacing.

The Engineering Department prepares engineering design plans and design specifications both with in-house personnel and engineering design consultants.

The Capital Improvements Program has completed an average of five million dollars worth of improvements each year over the past 10 years.

Computer Aided Design & Graphic Information Systems

The Engineering Department utilizes the latest automatic computer aided design (AutoCAD) civil 3D software to complete detailed engineering designs of the improvements to the Township infrastructure. Information developed by the engineering department is maintained by the Engineering Department with the use of a Graphic Information System (GIS).

This graphic information is made available to all of the Township’s departments though the Township’s GIS to help facilitate the activities of the various departments including the handling of resident’s inquiries, complaints, permit requests, and various other township resident services.
