Rechargeable Type Batteries

Rechargeable type batteries (Ni-Cad, Lithium, and Button Type Batteries) are NO LONGER accepted at the Department of Public Works Recycling Depot, or the Municipal Building, 50 Woodland Avenue

To properly dispose of these batteries, contact the MCMUA at 973-829-8006 to schedule an appointment at their Household Hazardous Waste Facility located at 168 Gold Mine Rd. Flanders, NJ 07836. You may also visit their website at www.mcmua.com for a schedule of their “Drop-Off” events


Examples: 

  • Button type batteries used in watches and hearing aides
  • Lithium batteries used in cell phones, digital cameras, and computers
  • Ni-Cad batteries used in cordless power tools and cordless house phones

Type of Batteries Not Accepted for Recycling

Alkaline type batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, and 9 Volt) made after 1994 are not considered hazardous waste. Please dispose of these type batteries in with your garbage.
