The Morris Township Police Department recognizes a trained tactical unit may substantially reduce the risk of injury or loss of life in response to a critical incident.The Special Operations Unit has been established to support members of the Morris Township Police Department with a tactical response to critical incidents.
Special Operations Officers
The officers in the SOU are selected based on their ability to perform under stress, firearm skills, and level of physical fitness. Each officer is trained in the use of tactical equipment and qualified in the deployment of various firearms. SOU members must attend and successfully complete a vigorous SWAT training course. Officers also participate in mandatory monthly training. The Morris Township Police SOU is a member of the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA).
Special Operations Response
The Special Operations Unit can be deployed to provide a tactical response to critical incidents as defined but not limited to:
- Active Shooter Incidents
- Armed / Suicidal Subjects
- Barricaded Subject(s)
- Hostage Situation
- High Risk Apprehensions / Arrest Warrant Service
- Execution of Search Warrants.
- Mutual Aid response to critical incidents
