[ARCHIVED] Happy Hanukkah! A Message from Mayor Sisler and the Township Committee

HH

Tonight is the first night of Hanukkah. Jewish families in Morris Township will light the first candle in celebration. This holiday commemorates the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire. A small band of Jews took back Jerusalem, freed their people, and re-entered the temple. They made a menorah but only found enough oil to light it for one day. However through a miracle, it continued to burn for eight days. Hanukkah lights remind us of the importance of faith, hope, and perseverance. On behalf of the entire Morris Township Committee, I wish all who celebrate, a Happy Hanukkah.

Mayor Bruce D. Sisler
