Volunteer

The Need
The Morris Township Fire Department is always in need of volunteer firefighters. The Morris Township Fire Department provides all necessary equipment and training.

Incentives
The Morris Township Fire Department offers the following incentives to its volunteer firefighters to help retain them:
  • Availability of tennis courts at the fire station
  • Availability to play golf at two private golf country clubs
  • Bowling league
  • Life insurance
  • Family membership in two township pools
  • Family oriented events, i.e. picnics
  • Fitness membership at the local YMCA, includes:
    • Free weights
    • Indoor pool
    • Indoor track
    • Nautilus
Requirements
  • 18 year of age or older
  • Citizen of the United States
  • Good health sufficient to satisfy the township physician and the executive board of the New Jersey State Firemen's Association as to eligibility for membership in the State Firemen's Association
  • Good moral character
  • No convictions of any criminal involving moral turpitude
  • Resident of the Township of Morris or resides within one mile of the township's boundary
  • Read, write, and speak the English language
Probation Period
Once an applicant has been accepted into the Fire Department as a volunteer member and is approved by the township committee, the applicant will be considered a "probationary firefighter".

All probationary firefighters are required to attend the Morris County Fire Academy for training to obtain their New Jersey State Certified Firefighter Lever 1 within their probationary year.
