Dear Property Owner,
On November 12, 2025, the Township of Morris governing body approved an increase in annual sewer service fees.
The Township has not raised sewer rates since 2008. Over the past five years, operating costs have increased significantly. Electric energy costs are up 8.1%, sludge disposal 12.6%, insurance 15.8%, and salaries and benefits 16%.
After reviewing current and projected expenses, we determined that existing rates will not cover operating costs over the next five years. In addition, both sewer treatment plants require significant capital improvements to operate efficiently and comply with state environmental requirements.
New Annual Sewer Service Fees - Effective January 1, 2026
The new base rate for all residential and professional units will be $650.00 per year.
Commercial / Non-Residential Use Rates
For all uses other than residential, the service charge will be calculated at a rate of $7.75 per 1,000 gallons of metered water usage or metered sewage, with a minimum annual charge of $650.00 per use. Note: Multiple businesses within one structure will be billed as a separate use.
Approved Future Rate Increases
The Township Committee has approved a four-year schedule of adjustments to provide predictability for property owners. The rates will increase as follows:
Senior Citizen Discount
Any senior citizen who qualifies for a property tax deduction under N.J.S.A. 54:4-8.40 et seq. shall pay a reduced sewer service charge of $200.00 per year for the family unit they occupy.
We appreciate your understanding. Feel free to contact the Township with any questions.
Sincerely,
Township of Morris Sewer Billing Department

Morris Township, in partnership with American Legion Post 59 and the Morristown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, is proud to honor our veterans and servicemembers through the Hometown Heroes Program.
We invite veterans, their families (living or deceased), and current servicemembers who reside—or once resided—in Morris Township to apply for a commemorative banner. These banners will be displayed each May and November on light poles at the Township Municipal Building, Ginty Field, Dwyer Lane, and Convent Station in recognition of Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
Banners are created with a $200 donation to American Legion Post 59. Families who wish to honor a veteran but cannot contribute financially may qualify for a sponsored banner.
Sponsorship opportunities are also available for individuals, families, organizations, and businesses who want to support this tribute. To participate, please complete a 🔗 Banner Application or 🔗 Sponsorship Application Form.
