1. Is a homeowner responsible for a part of the sewer line?

Residents are responsible for the maintenance of sewer lines from the house to the mainline in the street or easement.

2. Who do I need to contact with a sewer emergency outside working hours and on holidays?

If you experience a sewer problem outside of our listed hours, we have an on-call person available 24/7 including holidays. To reach our on-call person, please call the Police Department's non-emergency number at 973-539-0777.

3. May I install a garbage disposal in my home?

Garbage disposals are prohibited due to the excessive load they put on the treatment system. Just dispose of wet wastes in your regular garbage or compost them for your garden.

4. May I connect my sump pump to the sanitary sewer system?

It is prohibited to connect your sump pump to the sanitary sewer system. Run your sump pump into the street storm drain or your backyard, downhill side.

5. May I pour grease down the drain?

Grease must never be poured down the drain. This causes home plumbing headaches for you as well as main line clogs in the sewer system.

6. May I pour pesticides down the drain?

Pesticides must be disposed of at the county. Pouring them down the drain kills the live bacteria used to treat the wastewater.

7. May I flush medicine down the drain?

Old medicine must be properly disposed of also. Never flush it down the drain.

8. Who is responsible for the repair of a sewer ejector / grinder pump?

If you own a sewer ejector / grinder pump and it has a malfunction, it is the homeowners responsibility to have it repaired. The local factory rep for E-one pumps is Site Specific Design Inc. and they may be reached by calling 1-800-295-8853. Office Number: 1-215-887-3730
