Benjamin RideoutChief Benjamin P. Rideout was our third Chief of Police. Chief Rideout rose through the ranks quickly. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1955, Detective Lieutenant in 1962, Detective Captain in 1964, and then appointed as chief of police on June 10th, 1965. During his time as chief of police, he was responsible for the first automated management information system, organized the Morris County Crime Alert, and the first administrator in the county to enact a formal set of rules, policies, procedures, and revamped the communications system. Chief Rideout was a graduate of the 76th session of the FBI National Academy. After his retirement, March 7,1981, having served Morris Township 31 years, he assumed the position of deputy chief, in charge of the Law Enforcement Division of the Morris County Sheriffs Office.
