Via Executive Order No. 130, Governor Murphy permitted municipalities to extend the grace period for 2nd quarter taxes to 6/1/20. The Township Committee has reviewed our budget to make sure the Township will be able to meet our financial obligations and has passed this resolution in the hopes to alleviate some of the burden on taxpayers during this time of the pandemic.
RESOLUTION NO. 89-20
RE: AUTHORIZING THE EXTENSION OF THE SECOND QUARTER 2020 GRACE PERIOD FOR PAYMENT OF PROPERTY TAXES TO JUNE 1, 2020
WHEREAS, Executive Order No. 130, signed by Governor Murphy on April 28 ,2020, has permitted municipalities to extend the grace period for the second quarter 2020 property taxes, due on May 1, 2020 to June 1, 2020; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Governing Body of the Township of Morris to extend the grace period for the second quarter 2020 property taxes to June 1, 2020;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Township Committee of the Township of Morris, the Governing Body hereby extends the grace period for the second quarter 2020 property taxes to June 1, 2020. Interest will not be charged if paid by June 1, 2020. Payments received after June 1, 2020 will be charged statutory interest from the due date of May 1, 2020.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, a copy of this resolution shall be provided to the Tax Collector, Chief Financial Officer and Auditor. The Clerk shall provide copy of this resolution to the Director of the Division of Local Government Services, Department of Community Affairs, within three (3) business days of the adoption of this resolution.
