During this month’s Township Committee meeting, the Committee was honored to award Mr. Charles Arteglier with the Community Service Award and present him with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol from Rep. Mikie Sherrill, for his distinguished service in Japan and Korea from 1948 – 1952, his service to the Township as sixty-four year member of Hillside Hose Company on Western Ave, and for his volunteerism in the community. The Committee also recognized Jacob Grayzel for winning two bronze medals at the World Jump Rope Championship in Norway.
After the awards, the Economic Development Advisory Committee made a presentation to the committee, focusing on their new strategic plan. The Township Administrator then gave a presentation on the Township’s Open Space Grant Application to the County for the proposed acquisition of open space at ValleVue on Picatinny Rd.
Following these presentations, the Township Committee introduced an ordinance to establish a Transportation Advisory Committee as part of an initiative to address traffic concerns such as speeding, prioritize alternative methods of travel such as walking and biking, and make recommendations to the Township Committee for potential improvements. This ordinance is scheduled to come up for a final vote during the Township Committee meeting on August 21st.
