OPEN SPACE PRESERVATION – VALLEVUE FARM PRESERVE
The Mayor and Township Committee are pleased to announce the Township has completed an open space purchase of ValleVue Farm Preserve – Phase 2 on Picatinny Road from the Rosenhaus family. The acquisition of 7.76 acres will complement the previous acquisition of 21 acres in 2015. This acquisition protects the Washington Valley viewshed, a six-acre meadow along Picatinny Road; allows the Township to complete a loop trail around the property, emanating from the Ted Largman Community Garden parking lot; and provides a remnant farm pond that drains into Gillespie Brook, which is a tributary of the Whippany River as a destination on the trail system.
This purchase in the amount of $1,042,800 was accomplished through use of dedicated Open Space Funds from the Township of Morris, County of Morris and Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority. Also, received a financial donation from the Rosenhaus family. We wish to thank and acknowledge the Morris County Open Space Trust Fund ($684,900) and the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority ($100,000) for their substantial financial contributions to the acquisition.
Providing open space and recreation opportunities for our residents is of utmost importance to the Township. Our Open Space Committee, chaired by Mr. Rick Watson, Parks and Recreation Director, Bill Foelsch, and Township staff worked with the Rosenhaus family to protect this long-time farm so that it can be used and enjoyed by Township residents. Our gratitude goes out to each and every one of them.
