Traveling: Hotel/Motel Fire Safety |
- Traveling? Visit the United States Fire Administrations web site for the Hotel-Motel Master List.
- Site provides a search for hotels/motels that meet the fire and life safety requirements of the Hotel and Motel Fire Safety Act of 1990.
- Hotel and Motel Fire Safety Act of 1990 requires that federal employees stay in or have conferences in properties that are equipped with:
- Hard-wired, single station smoke detectors in each guestroom in accordance with the National Fire Protection Associations standard 72;
- An automatic sprinkler system, with a sprinkler head in each guest's room in compliance with NFPA standards 13 or 13R. Properties three stories or lower in height are exempt from the sprinkler requirement.
- These two requirements could help save your life, and that of your family, in the event of a hotel/motel fire. We recommend that you stay in facilities that conform to the act when ever possible.
